What the Work Actually Looks Like

You’ll own meaningful slices of a system that moves real money. That means:

• Evolving the core billing engine — subscriptions, plan changes, renewals, prorations, and invoicing across thousands of enterprise accounts.
• Building and hardening the AI credits lifecycle: bucket creation, consumption tracking, quota enforcement, and state transitions across plan changes.
• Integrating with payment infrastructure and financial systems — and being the person who deeply understands why those integrations are the way they are, not just how to call .
• Designing event-driven pipelines that propagate billing state to downstream systems reliably, not just usually.
• Debugging production issues where the blast radius is a customer’s invoice or a blocked payment — and being the one who sees it through to resolution.

What We’re Looking For

The two things we hire for above everything else are ownership and impact.

• Ownership means treating a problem as yours until it’s actually solved. Noticing something broken and fixing it without being asked. Pushing back when a requirement doesn’t make sense. Following up after a deploy. Caring about the outcome, not the ticket.
• Impact means orienting your work around what moves the needle — for the product, for the business, for the customer. It means choosing the right problem to solve, not just solving the problem in front of you. Engineers who thrive here ask “what’s the most valuable thing I can do right now?” before they ask “what should I build next?”.

Everything else flows from those two:

• System design instincts. You’ve seen what happens when data modeling and distributed consistency go wrong at scale. You design for the failure cases.
• Judgment over output. You use AI coding tools fluently to move faster — but you’re the one deciding what’s right, reviewing what’s generated, and owning what ships.Taste. You know the difference between a clean solution and a liability dressed as pragmatism. You leave code better than you found it.
• Comfort with ambiguity. You can pick up an unfamiliar codebase, understand what it’s trying to do, and make a good change without breaking things you didn’t touch

Background that helps you ramp faster:

• Familiarity with event-driven architecture and the tradeoffs around eventual consistency
• TypeScript/Node.js and PostgreSQL at production scale
