JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for managing enterprise backup and recovery solutions across multiple platforms, ensuring data availability, integrity, and compliance through effective administration of Veeam and IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Administer and maintain enterprise backup environments using IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM) and Veeam Backup & Replication.
Monitor daily backup operations, including database backups, storage pool activities, and scheduled jobs, ensuring successful completion and timely issue resolution.
Manage backup and replication schedules to ensure data protection, availability, and compliance with organizational policies.
Perform backup server and client upgrades, ensuring compatibility and minimal service disruption.
Administer and maintain enterprise backup environments using IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM) and Veeam Backup & Replication.
Configure and manage backup policies, including client nodes, policy domains, management classes, copy groups, and include/exclude parameters.
Add and remove servers from backup schedules, ensuring proper alignment with business and operational requirements.
Configure cluster-based backup schedules and ensure consistent protection across distributed systems.
Install and configure TSM clients on AIX, SUSE Linux, and other supported platforms for OS-level backups.
Implement and manage SAP HANA backups using TDP for HANA on Linux systems.
Manage storage pools, including container storage pools, ensuring efficient data storage and lifecycle management.
Perform administrative processes such as data expiration, storage pool migration, collocation, and tape reclamation.
Handle media management activities, including tape lifecycle, allocation, and tracking.
Administer tape library systems (e.g., IBM TS4300), ensuring availability, performance, and reliability of drives and paths.
Monitor tape library performance and generate reports on utilization and health.
Perform firmware upgrades, maintenance, and cleaning of tape drives to ensure optimal performance.
Audit and reconcile discrepancies between physical library inventory and TSM database records.
Execute data and system restore requests in accordance with defined restoration processes and SLAs.
Support disaster recovery preparedness by validating backup integrity and conducting recovery tests.
Ensure backups are recoverable and aligned with recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO).
Perform regular health checks of backup infrastructure and proactively identify and resolve issues.
Troubleshoot backup failures, performance issues, and infrastructure problems, coordinating with system and hardware teams as needed.
Collaborate with system administrators and infrastructure teams to support backup-related activities and resolve incidents.
Ensure adherence to backup policies, security standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Maintain documentation for backup configurations, procedures, and operational activities.
Identify opportunities to optimize backup performance, reduce storage costs, and improve operational efficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Educational Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field
Experience
10+years of experience
Strong expertise in Veeam Backup & Replication
Experience with IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM)
Knowledge of AIX, Linux, and Windows systems
Backup, restore, and disaster recovery planning
Tape library and storage management
Troubleshooting and incident management
Certifications
ITIL Foundation & IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Certified
Arabic and English Language (spoken and written) – Essential
