Principal Mechanical Engineer (Lead Design Engineer I – Mechanical) Full Time

Primary Objective

• To ensure the integrity of mechanical equipment design (static and rotating) while leading the mechanical equipment engineering group on specific projects.
• To provide specialist rotating equipment input to conceptual studies, FEED, and detailed design for oil & gas developments.

What You Will Do

• Ensure all designs comply fully with project specifications and client, international, and local standards.
• Prepare specifications for, and evaluate, rotating equipment packages.
• Perform engineering design as required.
• Undertake conceptual design and specification of rotating and packaged equipment, and review EPC detailed designs, technical bid evaluations, and vendor documentation.
• Allocate work to team members and ensure tasks are carried out within their competencies and with appropriate supervision.
• Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance requirements and relevant guidelines applicable to the Oil & Gas business unit.
• Promote safe working practices and ensure adherence to OH&S procedures.
• Ensure conceptual and detailed design work is aligned with the complexity of construction, maintaining a balance between design costs and implementation costs.
• Ensure feedback from supervisors and/or superintendents confirms that constructability requirements are adequately addressed and that work packs contain sufficient and relevant detail.
• Conduct site investigations and prepare reports.

What You Will Bring

• Hands-on experience with static and rotating equipment (gas turbine-driven compressors, pumps, generator packages, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns, tanks, and associated packages).
• Experience in developing layouts for new facilities.
• Experience preparing specifications, evaluations, and documentation for static and rotating equipment packages.
• Demonstrated experience working in the Middle East project environment.
• Experience working in a PMC (Project Management Consultancy) environment.
• Ability to work within broad technical guidelines with minimal supervision.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to tight deadlines.

Qualifications / Experience

• Full-time Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Atleast 15 years of total experience post graduate studies.
• Atleast 10 years in the oil & gas / petrochemical / refinery industry.
• Last 5 years in a similar leadership or specialist role.
• Previous experience working with a contractor or in a comparable delivery model.
