Roles & Responsibilities
As a Metal Estimator at Prime Benchmark, you will be responsible for the following core duties:
Detailed Material Take-offs: Analyze structural steel and aluminum fabrication drawings to generate precise material requirements.
Comprehensive Cost Estimation: Calculate total project costs by factoring in raw materials, fabrication labor, surface treatments (e.g., powder coating, galvanizing), and site installation.
Tender Preparation & Submission: Compile and manage the timely submission of competitive technical and commercial tender documents.
BOQ Development: Prepare accurate Bills of Quantities (BOQ) based on architectural and structural specifications.
Market Analysis & Sourcing: Liaise with UAE-based suppliers and subcontractors to obtain up-to-date market rates and negotiate competitive pricing.
Technical Drawing Review: Interpret complex fabrication drawings to identify potential technical challenges or value-engineering opportunities.
Data Management: Utilize AutoCAD, Excel, and specialized estimation software to maintain organized records of bids and project specifications.
Collaboration: Work closely with the design and production teams to ensure that estimates align with fabrication capabilities and project timelines.
Desired Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate for this role is a technical expert who combines engineering precision with commercial awareness. We are looking for a professional who meets the following criteria:
Educational Background: Holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (or an equivalent technical qualification).
Proven Experience: A minimum of 4 years of dedicated experience in metal and steel estimation. You should have a portfolio of successfully tendered projects in the structural or architectural metal sector.
Technical Mastery: In-depth knowledge of structural steel, metal works, and aluminum systems. You must be highly proficient in reading and interpreting complex fabrication drawings.
Software Proficiency: Expert-level command of AutoCAD and MS Excel. Familiarity with industry-standard estimation software is essential for maintaining accuracy and speed.
Estimation Expertise: Demonstrated ability to prepare precise Bill of Quantities (BOQ), material take-offs, and comprehensive cost analyses from scratch.
Regional Insight (Preferred): Strong existing knowledge of UAE market rates, local building specifications, and a reliable network of regional suppliers.
Core Competencies: High attention to detail, strong analytical thinking, and the ability to work under tight deadlines to meet tender submission dates.
