Middle Years Programme (MYP) Sciences & Biology Teacher

The MYP Sciences & Biology Teacher plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality science education and fostering students’ scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and understanding of the natural world. The teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing a rigorous and engaging science curriculum aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework and standards.

The teacher will inspire students through meaningful scientific inquiry, provide differentiated instruction to address diverse learning needs, assess student progress effectively, and contribute to the ongoing development of the school’s science programme. The teacher is expected to work within the framework of the school’s mission, vision, core values, and culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deliver a comprehensive, challenging, and inquiry-based Sciences and Biology curriculum aligned with the IB MYP framework and standards.
• Engage students in hands-on investigations, experiments, research activities, and authentic scientific inquiries.
• Integrate technology, multimedia resources, and real-world applications to deepen students’ understanding and appreciation of scientific concepts.
• Create a supportive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that promotes student engagement, participation, and collaboration.
• Foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and scientific literacy through data analysis, scientific argumentation, and thought-provoking discussions.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, providing appropriate support and extension opportunities.
• Establish and maintain a safe, organized, and well-equipped laboratory environment.
• Design and implement a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies to evaluate students’ knowledge, skills, and conceptual understanding.
• Collaborate with colleagues within the Science Department and across disciplines to ensure curricular coherence and interdisciplinary connections.
• Participate actively in professional learning opportunities, workshops, and conferences to remain current with best practices in science education and IB pedagogies.
• Contribute positively to the wider school community and support school initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Integrated Sciences, or a related field.
• Teaching Diploma or equivalent teaching qualification required.
• A Master’s degree is considered an asset.

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years and up to 5 years of relevant teaching experience.
• Previous experience teaching Sciences and/or Biology within an IB MYP or comparable international educational setting is highly desirable.

Languages

• Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required, as English is the language of instruction.
• Proficiency in Arabic is preferred.
• Additional language skills are considered an advantage.
