JOB SUMMARYThe Head of Faculty Capabilities Development leads the strategic development of faculty capabilities across teaching, leadership, and academic practice, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities, innovation agendas, and long-term academic excellence. The incumbent designs and oversees professional growth programs for USEK’s academic community, including faculty career pathways, pedagogical development initiatives, academic leadership programs, and continuous professional development frameworks. The role ensures that USEK faculty are consistently supported in their growth as educators, researchers, leaders, and institutional contributors, strengthening academic quality, institutional performance, and long-term academic sustainability

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKSFaculty Capability and Professional Development:

• Designs and oversees structured faculty development frameworks aligned with career stages and academic leadership roles.
• Defines institutional capability priorities, including teaching excellence, AI readiness, advising effectiveness, academic leadership, and faculty engagement.
• Develops and scales professional development programs across all academic units.
• Ensures consistency, quality, and institutional alignment of faculty development offerings across the University.
• Develops structured continuous learning pathways that support long-term faculty growth and career progression. Teaching Excellence and Pedagogical Development:
• Leads initiatives that strengthen teaching quality, student-centered learning, and academic excellence.
• Defines teaching and pedagogical development priorities and coordinate related workshops, seminars, and faculty learning initiatives.
• Develops frameworks for teaching excellence, innovation in pedagogy, assessment practices, and learning outcomes achievement.
• Promotes evidence-based teaching practices, peer observation, mentoring, and continuous improvement mechanisms.
• Oversees the evolution of institutional teaching support systems and faculty engagement in instructional excellence. AI and Digital Capability Building:
• Translates institutional AI frameworks into practical faculty development programs in coordination with the AI in Education Unit.
• Ensures faculty are equipped to adopt AI responsibly in teaching, learning, assessment, and academic practice.
• Supports technology upskilling and digital teaching readiness aligned with institutional AI strategy and academic innovation priorities. Academic Leadership Development:
• Builds and manages leadership development programs for Heads of Department, Heads of Program, Associate Deans, and emerging academic leaders.
• Defines leadership capability frameworks aligned with institutional strategy and governance expectations.
• Supports succession planning and the development of a strong academic leadership pipeline across the University. Assessment, Partnerships, and Institutional Impact:
• Assesses faculty development needs through surveys, consultations, academic performance indicators, and institutional data analysis.
• Builds and maintains partnerships with external providers, experts, and institutions supporting faculty development and academic excellence.
• Monitors the effectiveness and institutional impact of faculty development programs and report outcomes to the Associate Provost.
• Promotes a University-wide culture of continuous professional growth, academic excellence, and leadership development.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

• Doctoral degree in higher education, education, instructional design, leadership, organizational development, or a related field is preferred.
• Master’s degree with extensive experience in faculty development is acceptable.
• 7 years+ of experience in higher education.
• 3 years+ of experience in faculty or academic staff development.
• Experience in the design and delivery of professional development programs in a university context.
• Good command of adult learning theory and professional development models for academic staff.
• Proven involvement in pedagogical innovation, active learning, and evidence-based teaching practices.
• Familiarity with AI-enabled education and technology integration frameworks.
• Knowledge of academic leadership development frameworks, as well as faculty performance and career progression systems.
• Familiarity with academic information systems (Banner or equivalent), LMS platforms and e-learning tools, and survey and assessment platforms.
• MS Office Suite.
• Passion for faculty growth and teaching excellence.
• Collaborative and inclusive leadership style.
• Strong communicator in Arabic, French, and English.
• Data-informed approach to program design and evaluation.
• Empathy and coaching mindset.
