Field Maintenance Manager Full Time

Africell, the pan-African mobile telecommunications company, is recruiting a Field Maintenance Manager to be based in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The role is responsible for:

Network Maintenance & Operations

• Manage all field maintenance activities related to RAN and Transmission networks.
• Ensure timely resolution of network faults and service-affecting incidents.
• Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance activities to maximize network availability and performance.
• Coordinate closely with the Network Operations Center (NOC) to address alarms, incidents, and escalation requirements.
• Develop and implement maintenance procedures, standards, and operational best practices.
• Monitor network performance and identify recurring issues requiring corrective action plans.

Team Management

• Lead, supervise, and develop a field operations team consisting of Technicians, Riggers, and Engineers.
• Manage teams ranging from 20 to 100 personnel across multiple geographical regions.
• Organize team schedules, duty rosters, and resource allocation to ensure efficient field operations.
• Establish performance objectives and conduct regular performance reviews.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company operational standards.

Resource Planning & Field Organization

• Dimension and optimize field maintenance teams according to network size, traffic distribution, and geographical coverage.
• Plan workforce requirements and maintenance resources to support network expansion and operational demands.
• Coordinate deployment and dispatching of field teams based on incident severity, priority, and location.
• Manage relationships with subcontractors and external service providers when required.

Technical Leadership

• Provide technical expertise and guidance on Huawei Radio Access Network technologies.
• Support troubleshooting and maintenance activities for:
• Huawei 3G Networks
• Huawei 4G/LTE Networks
• Huawei 5G Networks (preferred)
• Transmission and Transport Equipment
• Participate in network modernization, upgrades, and optimization projects.
• Ensure proper documentation of maintenance activities, network changes, and technical reports.

You will work with the technical team to achieve contribute to Africell’s mission of bringing affordable, fast and secure mobile connectivity to millions of customers across Africa.

The ideal applicant will have at least 6-8 years’ experience in:

• Radio and Transmission maintenance
• Managing large field teams within a telecom environment
• Mobile network operators and vendor-managed environments
• Radio Access Networks (2G/3G/4G/LTE and preferably 5G)
• Huawei RAN equipment and technologies
• Transmission and transport networks
• Preventive and corrective maintenance methodologies
• NOC operations, alarm management, and escalation procedures
• Network troubleshooting and fault management
