Application for Water Treatment Plant Operator Position
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my strong interest in the position of Water Treatment Plant Operator within your
organization. With more than ten years of hands-on experience in water and wastewater treatment plant
operations at the National Water Supply and Drainage Board of Sri Lanka, I have developed extensive technical
knowledge and practical skills in plant operation, water quality monitoring, and equipment maintenance.
Currently, I am working as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Technician at the Ratmalana Wastewater
Treatment Plant. In this role, I am responsible for the operation and monitoring of wastewater treatment processes
using both SCADA and manual systems. My responsibilities include collecting and analyzing wastewater samples,
interpreting laboratory test results, monitoring plant performance, and maintaining operational logs and reports. I
also conduct routine inspections and maintenance of pumps, filters, tanks, and other mechanical and electrical
equipment to ensure the continuous and efficient functioning of the plant.
Prior to this position, I worked at the Kurunegala Water Treatment Plant where I was directly involved in the
operation and monitoring of drinking water treatment processes. My responsibilities included conducting jar tests
and laboratory tests such as pH, turbidity, residual chlorine, and TDS measurements to ensure that water quality
standards were consistently maintained. I also maintained accurate documentation of water quality data and
responded to operational issues to ensure uninterrupted plant performance and safe drinking water supply.
Through these roles, I have gained strong experience in water treatment plant operations, chemical dosing
processes, laboratory testing, equipment monitoring, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and
maintaining operational records. I am highly familiar with safety procedures, chemical handling, and the
importance of maintaining strict water quality standards and environmental regulations.
In addition to my practical experience, I hold an NVQ Level 4 qualification in Water and Wastewater Treatment
Plant Operation awarded by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka. This qualification
has strengthened my knowledge in plant start-up procedures, treatment processes, effluent and drinking water
quality standards, laboratory practices, and occupational health and safety. I have also completed a Skill
Upgrading Course for Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operation Technician conducted by the National
Water Supply and Drainage Board.
My technical background is further supported by training in plumbing and mechanical engineering disciplines,
which has provided me with additional knowledge in pipe systems, pump installation and maintenance,
mechanical equipment operation, and troubleshooting of technical faults within treatment facilities. These
combined skills enable me to contribute effectively to the efficient and reliable operation of water treatment
systems.
