Business/Financial Internal Controller Full Time

About the Role

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Reporting hierarchically to the Head of Internal Control – Africa, your responsibilities for your operational scope are as follows:

Drive and oversee the onsite implementation of corrective actions across financial and operational areas, ensuring alignment with group standards and long-term process effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Review and assess key business and financial processes (including procurement, accounts payable, and related cycles) to identify inefficiencies and to ensure risks are properly controlled.
• Implement and enhance key controls for critical risks, and provide methodological support to operational teams.
• Perform controls to ensure the proper application, effectiveness, and compliance of procedures with Group rules and standards.
• Lead internal control campaigns, including the deployment of self-assessment questionnaires.
• Identify dysfunctions within processes, conduct diagnostics (root cause analysis, data analysis), and recommend and implement corrective actions.
• Work closely with local, regional, and GBS teams to coordinate the deployment of action plans, ensuring timely and effective implementation, and guaranteeing that necessary adjustments are properly executed.
• Support operational teams onsite when needed to drive remediation actions and ensure sustainable improvements.
• Monitor and verify that audit and internal control recommendations are properly implemented.
• Identify gaps in existing processes and propose additional procedures and controls where necessary to strengthen the internal control framework.
• Raise awareness among operational teams regarding risk management and the importance of internal controls.
• Monitor regulatory developments within the scope and adapt controls accordingly.
• Track, consolidate, and report on internal control activities, including progress and challenges in action plan implementation.
• Monitor key indicators measuring the effectiveness of the internal control framework.
• Participate in coordination meetings with compliance and risk management functions, and share best practices across the Internal Control community.

Travel is required, including onsite assignments of up to 50% annual presence in Africa regularly and frequently. Countries include but are not limited to: South Africa, Angola, Mozambique, and Congo.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree (Bac +5), ideally complemented by specialized training in internal control, finance, risk management. Internal Audit professional certifications is a plus (CCIA, CISA, CIA…)
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with a background in finance/business processes.
• Knowledge and experience of the shipping and logistics sectors is a plus.
• Experience in internal control, audit, or risk management is a plus.
• Strong understanding of financial processes (e.g., procurement, accounts payable, and related cycles).
• Fluent in English and/or French; willingness to work in an international environment and travel when required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders.
• Recognized for rigor, responsiveness, analytical thinking, and strong synthesis and writing skills.
• Ability to work autonomously while driving cross-functional collaboration and leading change initiatives.
